Lesson Plans and Necessary Handouts
- Ladderwords A long-term vocabulary-building exercise
- A reference books worksheet for telling the difference between a dictionary, thesaurus, almanac, atlas, and encyclopedia.
- A set of root words cards (meant to be cut out). Each card features the Greek or Latin root and four words derived from that root. Students look up the definitions of the four words and then try to figure out what the root means. I had students complete four cards, then choose their favorite of the four roots and make a poster about it.
- My final exam. I always draw cartoons on my exams before giving them to the kids; they seem more friendly that way (and it makes me happy, too!)

Unit Plans
An interdisciplinary unit on Inherit the Wind. This unit includes both Social Studies and Communication Arts lessons related to the play, Inherit the Wind, and the issues debated in the play: the teaching of evolution in public schools, and every person's right to think for himself or herself.
